Mobile Mechanic Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about our services, quotations, parking and how booking is planned. Online payments and live appointments are not active yet.

Is the £50 booking deposit an extra fee?

No. In the planned live checkout, your £50 deposit will be deducted from the quoted total and is not an additional charge. The full total and remaining balance will be shown before payment.

Can you work in a private car park?

Potentially, provided you have permission and the space is safe and suitable. The full booking journey will require confirmation of permission when a private car park is selected.

Do you perform MOT tests on the driveway?

No. MOT testing must take place at an approved test premises. The planned service is MOT collection and return through an approved partner, subject to logistics and availability.

Can I choose a day outside my area's preferred days?

That is the plan. Preferred zone days will help group nearby appointments without limiting customers exclusively to those days. Other days will be offered when capacity allows.

Is a £50 booking deposit an extra charge?

No. In the proposed live checkout it will be deducted from the accepted full quotation. For example, £159 total means £50 payable at booking and £109 on completion. This prototype does not currently take deposits.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. A late cancellation is not an automatic loss of the £50 deposit: any deduction must be lawful, fair and based on reasonable evidenced loss, taking account of saved costs and attempts to fill the slot. Your statutory rights take priority.

Can you keep the deposit if I cancel within 24 hours?

Not automatically. Where a charge is lawful, it should reflect proportionate, evidenced losses rather than a blanket penalty. You can read UK government guidance on fair cancellation terms at gov.uk/guidance/writing-a-fair-contract-for-customers. Official CMA guidance ↗

Does the 14-day online cancellation period apply?

Qualifying distance service contracts may have a 14-day cancellation right, with particular exceptions and early-start requirements. We will explain relevant rights before taking any payment. See legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134. Consumer Contracts Regulations ↗

Is parking permission necessary?

For private car parks, you must confirm permission to carry out the work. Street parking requests need enough safe room and suitable access. We may need to review photographs or find an alternative location.

Can I combine services in one visit?

Yes, where the work, available time, parts and parking arrangements allow it. The proposed pricing approach uses a single attendance allocation within the overall quote, not an extra call-out for each service.

How is travel between bookings calculated?

The planned scheduler estimates route distance from postcode coordinates and applies a configurable road-distance factor and travel buffer. These are planning estimates, not live traffic predictions.

Do you guarantee every job can be done on a driveway?

No. We review job complexity, vehicle-specific requirements, safety and equipment before acceptance. Major or specialist repairs may need workshop facilities.

Does the location page guarantee availability?

No. We must check the full postcode, requested job, technician rota and the preceding and following travel commitments.

Can I request another day?

Yes, where the planned route and job capacity allow. Preferred local days are intended to group nearby bookings, not limit customers to two days.

Can I book without a fixed online price?

This is currently a website prototype. Work requiring specific parts, vehicle details or workshop assessment will need a confirmed quotation before any binding booking.

Where can the technician work?

A suitable driveway or permitted private car park is preferred where safe. Street work is subject to access and safe working conditions.

What does the £50 deposit mean?

A proposed future £50 booking deposit would be included within—not added to—the agreed service quotation. The live deposit and cancellation rules are pending review and implementation.

Do I need to provide my registration?

Yes. It helps confirm the correct engine, parts and relevant repair instructions before the quote is finalised.

Can the work be completed at my home?

Potentially, subject to safe parking, access, the vehicle condition and equipment needed. Some work requires workshop facilities.

Can an MOT be tested on the driveway?

No. An MOT test must be carried out at an approved testing station. This is a collection and return service with a partner.

How is the £50 booking deposit used?

The planned live booking system will deduct your £50 deposit from your accepted total quotation. It will not be added on top. Online payments have not yet been activated.

What happens if I cancel an appointment?

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. Any late-cancellation charge must comply with your statutory rights and be based on reasonable, demonstrable losses; the £50 deposit is not automatically forfeited.

Do you provide DPF and carbon cleaning?

DPF and carbon-cleaning assessment is being considered as an additional service. Treatment depends on diagnosis, technician capability and appropriate equipment; availability will be confirmed before bookings are accepted.
